The Ghan – Information & Tours
Named in tribute to the Afghan camel drivers who helped make
Australia's Red Centre accessible at the end of the 19th century,
the Afghan Express - affectionately called The Ghan - is the most
luxurious way to discover the Land Down Under. The Ghan's maiden
voyage from Adelaide to Alice Springs took place nearly 100 years
ago, in August 1929, and since then, its route options and standard
of excellence have left a lasting impression on travellers.
The entire 1,851-mile journey offers an in-depth look at
Australia's unique regions, from the verdant vineyards and lush
forests to the harsh Outback and tropical northern coast. Each day
on board The Ghan brings endless luxury, including world-class
cuisine inspired by the journey, fine wine and spirits, and
incredible off-board excursions that showcase the wonders of
Australia. Visit landmarks and stunning natural sites, or take part
in tours to uncover a bit of it all. While on board, sit back and
relax in Platinum, Gold Premium or Gold Class, basking in attentive
service and marvelling at the ever-changing terrain of beautiful
Australia.
